5 Weeks on Mondays from 7:00PM -8:30PM
Instructor: Rick Archibald
This hands-on instructor-led course is the first course in a series of two. It is open to anyone who has intermediate experience on either Windows or Mac. You should already be familiar and feel comfortable with your operating system's File System (Windows Explorer, not Internet Explorer), Program Files, Control Panel, and other Basics of your Operating System. Having extensive familiarity with the keyboard is essential: if you are not a "touch typist" it is advisable to know the keyboard layout well.
In Level 1, topics will include Hardware and Peripheral Support, extensive and free Software programs, ways to get Linux, Installation, Options and Help, Windows on Linux Options, Getting to Know the Desktop Environment KDE, Files and Directory Structure in Linux, and a short introduction to Working with Devices, the Internet and E-Mail with KMail and Evolution. In Level 2 these topics will be examined in greater detail.
Classes will be held in the Learning Center. Materials to Bring: a spiral notebook or binder with loose leaf paper for notetaking.
