Red Numbers in "Mailboxes" Page

What do the red numbers in the "New" column on the "Mailboxes" page really mean?  They do not disappear when you visit a mailbox, they do not disappear when you log out & log back in; they only disappear when you do both — 1st, visit a mailbox conataining new material, then  log out & log back in.

Red Numbers in "Mailboxes" Page

  • Change the behavior noted in "Qestions" above.
  • Make a msg. whose title has been viewed no longer count as "New".
    • At the very least make a msg. which has been read no longer count as "New".
  • Thus, if new mail comes in during a session, the user can tell this at a glance.

1. It inserts a space @ the beginning of the text of the msg. every time I "push" any of the 3 buttons -- "Check Spelling", "Ignore", or "Change to". (This is not the only circumstance in which the interface inserts spurious spaces, separate reports as needed.)

"WebMail Bug #01 -- Spell Check"

This is a 3 part problem:

1. It inserts a space @ the beginning of the text of the msg. every time I "push" any of the 3 buttons -- "Check Spelling", "Ignore", or "Change to". (This is not the only circumstance in which the interface inserts spurious spaces, separate reports as needed.)

2. It stops at the 1st misspelling -- the "Ignore" button doesn't work, it only inserts the extra space noted in (1).

3. The "Change to" button doesn't work either -- it also only inserts the extra space noted in (1).

The top part is not shown in the Guide, but it is accurately described; and the bottom is just like the 4th graphic they show.  So far, so good.

Secure Mail -- a new feature

  • This seems like as good a place as any to record my experiences
10 Oct 2004 -- 1st experience
  1. Read the Help:  http://webmail.hal-pc.org/Guide/WebSMIME.html
  2. Looked at some existing signed msgs. in my archive
They do not show up as described at:
    http://webmail.hal-pc.org/Guide/WebSMIME.html#ReceivingSigned
  3. Decided to try key genereation in my test acct.
    See:  http://webmail.hal-pc.org/Guide/WebSMIME.html#Storage

First Impressions

Great! a major step forward.

  • Nicer appearance
  • Convenient HAL & HALNet buttons on the log-in page
  • New functions
    • Calendar
    • ToDo? lists
    • Event Scheduling
    • Spell check

Improvements

  • Log in takes you to the "Mailboxes" page not  the "INBOX"
  • The in box is named "InBox" not  "INBOX"
  • Pages tend to fill the width of the screen

Questions

Log on page

Mailing Lists link

What is this for?  It takes me to http://geekhome.org:8100/Lists/ but I have no access to the list (test) nor is there a help button.  I suspect this is very useful, but very obscure at present.

"Dots" in User Names

The examples in the Guide show user names with dots in them ("j.smith"), is this allowed on HALNet?

Mailboxes, Mailbox browse pages

Redundent Links

The "New" & "Compose" links both go to the "Compose" page.  Is there a good reason for this?
