Some of the places we looked:

  1. http://twiki.org/cgi-bin/view/Support/ReadUserAlwaysTWikiGuest
  2. http://www.adamsinfoserv.com/twiki/bin/view.cgi/TWiki/TWikiUserAuthentication
  3. http://twiki.org/cgi-bin/view/Plugins/SmartSessionPlugin
Perhaps re-read [2] - Partial Authentication

That sounds right. It shows the login name for the user. TWikiGuest is current user.

There is a SpreadSheet plugin, but it works on tables, not vars.

I'm not aware of a plugin to do such a thing.

Perhaps it would work better to name the DebIan? topic Debian, and use ['s to force linking.

TWiki Issues
This topic is a place for the TWikiAdminGroup document & discuss TWiki problems & bugs.

NEW %WIKIUSERNAME% does not display correctly

When I try to use %WIKIUSERNAME% in a topic, it does not display correctly after I save my changes.  The %WIKIUSERNAME% is in the raw text, and it displays my name in "Preview Changes"; but when I "Save Changes", it displays as  =TWikiGuest=.
This may be related to the problem that I can't view the disabled Registrations Page, even when I am logged in & can edit it.  I get "No permission to read topic TWikiRegistration".

Local Topic Variables

Local Topic Variables are indeed available.
See:  http://twiki.org/cgi-bin/view/Plugins/TopicVarsPlugin
Please consider installing them -- but read the discussion of problems 1st.  It might even be a good idea to try it on another TWiki installation first.

Lowercase ("de-camel") function

Is there / can there be  a function to turn a WikiWord into a regular string, not just make it normal:
DebIan  ->  Debian %ss% not just:  DebIan  ->  DebIan
If this were Quattro or Excel, I would try something like:  @PROPER( @LOWER( <string> ) )
