Teaching Experience (adults, of course):

Computer Experience

I started working with computers in college in the mid 60's.  In the 70's I worked briefly as business computer programmer.  In 1982 I built my first personal computer (a Heathkit), and have been using them daily ever since.  I joined HAL-PC (Houston Area League of PC Users) in 2001.  I started this course in Oct. 2003.

Some other things I do at HAL:

I have a breadth of experience with computers that allows me to teach not just the computer in front of a student, but computers.  I try to prepare my students for any personal computer they may encounter in the future.

Peter Hodgson, retired college professor:

head's up! rick archibald is that rare geek: puterate but at the same time a sensitive pedagog; he knows his stuff, and his communication skills will guarantee that you don't get left behind; observe that when he talks to you he looks not at his own shoes, but AT YOURS;

Richard C. Lawson, retired Texas high school teacher:

Rick Archibald has an extensive background in computing. He has been a joy to observe and work with in his capacities as a presenter and instructor. As a high school teacher for 35 years, I have noticed the natural talents that Rick has in listening to his adult audience and students and organizing quickly in his mind how to answer their questions precisely and appropriately to the questioner's computer knowledge and skills. He is very personable and enjoyable: he learns from his audience or students and allows members of the class or audience to interact with each other in contributing to the topic or discussion at hand. This type of flexibility allows peers to learn from one another, and allows the instructor to also learn from his students or audience; which in turn helps the instructor to grow in his search for new strategies and techniques for future audiences (class or presentation).

Sincerely,

Richard C. Lawson
Retired Teacher
