- Who are you?
Please answer by show of hands:
- You're tired of setting your computers' clocks
- You're tired of forgetting to check your computers' clocks
- You're tired of your computers' clocks being 5 to 30 minutes off
- You want your your computers' clocks to be the best time "in the house"
- You want your your computers' clocks to all be the same
(So that time stamp comparisons are valid) - It's a cool thing to do.

Slide 6: Getting Opera
Getting Opera is easy —
- Go to the Opera Download page:
- At the Website www.opera.com, click "Download"
- Or go directly to one of the Download pages:
- Pick your Java Option:
- Non-Java, the default, is probably fine
- But consider installing real Sun Java on your machine
- Choose a download location:
- I recommend against the default, Simtel,
& usually use one of the Western European sites
- Click the "Download Now" button.
Comments
During the actual presentation, we noticed that Simtel is no longer the default; in fact, it is no longer offered as choice at all. A great improvement. With this change, there is very little reason to change the default behavior.
Slide 7: Getting Opera, Part 2
Okay, you clicked the "Download Now" button; now what? Mostly, it depends on your current browser
& your operating system (OS). In general, you must tell them (the browser & OS) to:
- Save, not open, the file
- Pick an appropriate spot on your hard disk
- Give the final go-ahead
Let's get an up-to-date copy for this machine.
Slide 8: Installing Opera
Installing Opera is as straightforward as downloading it:
- Go to directory (Folder)
where you just saved the Opera Installer.- Run it. (Double click on the file, or use the keyboard).
- Answer the 6 easy questions. — About 7 clicks.
Let's install the up-to-date copy we just downloaded.

Running Opera the First Time —
You will have to make some choices:
- Welcome screen
- Advertising Choices: Google or generic
- Buy a license for $39 (normal price)
Already, you are making choices that affect legibility.
- 2nd setup screen
- Skin preference: (Opera or Windows)
- Icon size: (60% – 140%)
- Toolbar setup: (Standard or Minimal)
