"Linux for Cowards" is my generic name for an evolving series of presentations whose core is the joys of Knoppix. The content shifts with the expected interests of the audience. There have been 3 "editions" so far, and they all seem to have been well received. Of course, can you really trust an author to be objective about his own work.
The edition names are a dig at Microsoft's naming of the different versions of MS Windows. ("Brass" comes from my idea that the first edition of anything - at least from MS - contains way too many errors to possibly justify calling it "gold". On the other hand, brass is another shiny yellow metal, of considerably less value, and with connotations of arrogance... An almost perfect fit.) I look forward to doing "SE-SP1", "ME", and "YQ".
This was presented to the HLUG Saturday meeting at the end of July (2003). The first half of the meeting was devoted to Knoppix, the second to PuTTY. There was no Linux history or Lin-Win comparison.
IE Errata & Addenda
Although second chronologically, this one was the third to be scheduled. It was given at the October (2003) meeting of the (HAL-PC) Internet SIG. PuTTY was eliminated and a brief history of Linux added. HLUG produced 20 Knoppix CD's which I gave away, along with 2(?) books generously supplied by O'Reilly & Associates.
SE Errata & Addenda
This was scheduled back in August & presented the last Thursday of October (2003). Aimed at a more general audience, this version had an expanded history of Linux, a comparison of Linux to MS Windows, and a deeper exploration of KDE, the normal KNOPPIX desktop. We gave KNOPPIX CD's to the first 30 people who signed in. With 68 attending, we gave away 8 assorted T-shirts, mugs, and books from O'Reilly & Associates. A 30 GB hard drive from our local Micro Center was the grand prize. Thank you to both organizations for their generous support.

Every Wednesday, 6 pm to 9 pm, at HAL-PC headquarters. We meet informally to help each other with KNOPPIX, installations, and other Linux related problems. If you want help with a specific computer, bring the computer, keyboard, and mouse to the Linux Workshop. Do not bring the monitor, HAL-PC supplies those. The meeting is held in the workshop room next to the kitchen.
The 1st Tuesday of every month, 7:00 to 8:30 pm, at HAL-PC headquarters, Richard Lawson teaches the Linux GUI for Windows users. Although a relative newcomer to Linux, Richard has taught in Texas schools for 35 years. His approach is "Low tech & Low key"
