17 May 2004:  Opera Presentation to Build or Buy

"Opera for Cowards" (ver. 2 ) will be presented to Build or Buy
this Wed. (May 19) at 1 pm in SIG A.

"Opera for Cowards" is a reworking of "Opera for Near Sighted Cowards" for a more sophisticated audience.  There will still be a strong emphasis on legibility through magnification.

03 Apr 2004:  4th Presentation of "Linux for Cowards" to Build or Buy

The Linux Desktop Comes of Age   or   How to Divorce Bill Gates and Not Pay Alimony
"Linux for Cowards" will be presented to the Build or Buy SIG  Wed., Apr. 21 at 1 pm.  All HAL-PC members, guests, & visitors are invited.  This edition of "Linux for Cowards", tagged "XP" for fun, will be especially for the Microsoft® Windows power user who is considering a change.  We will cover hardware compatibility & software availability, well as other uses for Linux machines:  dedicated firewalls, TiVo clones, and home LAN servers.

The second half of the talk will showcase Knoppix, Linux on a Live CD.  You boot from the CD and in about 2 minutes you have a Linux desktop.  When you are done, you remove the Knoppix CD and reboot to your installed OS.  We will show you how to get and burn your own copy of Knoppix, as well as give away 25 copies.  Within Knoppix we will demonstrate the similarities and differences between the two desktops (Linux and Microsoft® Windows).

We will end with a drawing for doorprizes, followed by Questions & Answers.

March 17, 2004:  Presentation to Basic Internet SIG March Meeting

Opera for Near Sighted Cowards was presented to Claudia Ludwig's Basic Internet SIG, last Tuesday (March 16) at 2 pm.  As advertised, the perspective was that of the older surfer, stressing magnification (zoom) & font control.  Most of the audience did fit that profile.  The presentation is available to other groups with appropriate emphasis on the Opera features of interest to the particular audience.
